Smelly Robotic Fish Are on the Loose!!!
I've recently been on a Manga fix. So far, I've read 5 Junji Ito books. I just finished Uzumaki and Dissolving Classroom, and now I've read Gyo. This one wasn't as detailed or as interesting as Uzumaki, but it was still pretty entertaining. I just love the illustrations and art of Ito's work. They're a feast for the eyes! The main girl in this one was quite annoying, but I guess that's what made it funny.Tadashi and his annoying nagging girlfriend, Kaori are on vacation in Okinawa, doing some scuba-diving. Soon, they come across a strange looking fish with robotic mechanical legs. Kaori is hyper-sensitive to the smell of it and they keep trying to get rid of it, but more and more sea creatures with legs pop up and begin attacking people on land.Like I said, this one wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't too bad. If you love Junji Ito, you'll love GYO!!!

Weird, creepy, and entertaining.
This book is actually one of the first things I ever purchased from Junji Ito. In the past I read online fan made translations of his works and I never read Gyo. I was hoping one day I could officially support Junji and when I heard about this book I bought it immediately.First thing I have to say it is a very odd concept. Without spoiling too much all you need to know is something happened underwater and sea animals are coming out of the sea attacking humans. I won't spoil anymore but thats the entire concept in a nut shell there is more to it than that but I don't want to give it away. I will admit it sounds weird and not that serious but he pulls off a nice creepy atmosphere. It contains a lot of body horror and weird images that we've come to know and love about Junji Ito's works. Some pages you just feel or even smell what the characters are smelling. His art really carries the odd situation the characters are in. I can vividly remember some pages of the story because of how well they were drawn or how creepy some of them looked like. I will admit some images made me uncomfortable and anyone reading this can practically guess what I am talking about since its just so uncomfortable thinking about it.I've read some reviews saying not to start here if you are a new comer. I kind of agree because I feel like if you are a new comer who never read his works or only heard about it this is a long story compared to his other works. I would start with a small story collection those usually get scary/odd much quicker than this book since it has a slow opening then really gets up there. If you think this is up your alley its not a hard read and its much shorter than Uzumaki. Also as a added bonus the book also has the short story "enigma of amigara fault" this is by far most probably the most famous of his works spread all over the internet. This is actually how I originally heard about him. All you need to know about this tale is human shaped holes are appearing in a mountain and people are traveling to see the mountain and I will leave it at that.Overall this is a good read for any Junji Ito fan I still have vivid memories of some of the art from the book. While the concept is a tad weird or not as scary as his other works his art really carries the premise. Plus its always great to have a physical copy of "enigma of amigara fault."

Fan of the Author. But the conditions..
I love reading Junji ito’s work, however I’m not a fan of the condition my book came, with an odd stain at the beginning.

I wasn't ready!
This was a morbid, yet funny story. I am a huge Junji Ito fan. It's perfect for any horror lover or Junji collector. 10/10

Bizarre and wonderful
I've been a fan of Junji Ito's work ever since I read Uzumaki without really knowing what I was getting into. That book presented a marvelous tale of terror resulting from a relatively simple idea--the kind of idea that seems so simple even a child might have thought of it. This book does much the same thing. It takes a simplistic idea that I'd write off as childish or silly if it had any other author's name attached to it and manages to turn that idea into a wonderful, if bizarre, work of horror.I think the thing that keep attracting me back to Junji Ito's work is that he has a remarkable talent for rendering the often chaotic events and images of nightmares into a coherent story, complete with the kind of visuals that can occasionally be disturbing even to jaded fans of the horror genre, and this book is no exception. Indeed, the story, though I have no complaints about the story, almost seems secondary to the artwork.I also quite liked the two "bonus" stories (completely unrelated to the events of the graphic novel) included at the back of the book.Is this as good as Uzumaki? I'd have to say no. That's a pretty tough act to follow. But this one does come close, and that's more than enough to earn my recommendation.

I love it
Junji Ito has the most amazing horror mangas that I’ve ever read. I don’t think they are that scary/disturbing but that’s just me. I like how it’s just bizarre and I really like the plots.

A miserable book, but I coudn't put it down
This was my fifth book that I've read from Junji Ito, and I'am still left speachless by how disturbing, gruesome and horrific this was. I made a big mistake of reading the book 30 min before going to sleep because my dreams were, in a simple word, crazy. Now, I wonder how does he come up with such stories, especially this, because every time I look at my bookshelf and I see this book, shivers go done my spine, and I get flashbacks of the story as if I've read it just now. The images were graphic, no matter that it was just a drawing, and there were may times I had to put the book down and take a few minutes to think of something else, or read a page of a wholesome book like "Little Women".

Horrible and extremely disturbing body-horror/existential dread manga
It starts out just creepy - maybe the first ½ of the story is these stinking fish crawling on to land on insect-like legs. And then the second ½ just turns horrendous, two fairly silly seeming premises (at first) taken to an extreme body horror conclusion that's genuinely disturbing. It feels unfinished, and burns out a little at the end, like it's missing a third act.Still, would recommend to horror fans. This also includes one of Ito's most striking one-off stories: the Enigma of Amigara Fault

Great collectors edition to have
The book was well-packed and arrived in great condition. GYO is a horror manga by Junji Itou, the master of Japanese horror writing. I am glad to have this in my hands. The edition is exceptionally pretty. Print quality and so on - excellent.

Another Junji Ito classic
Though sometimes it can come off as a little silly, the dialogue can be a bit stilted and the characters can be somewhat shallow, this does little to detract from the ever growing sense of dread and truly unsettling, yet engrossing premise. Trust me, walking fish may sound like something out of a cheesy B movie, but Ito manages to find a way to make it much more menacing in a dark twist you’ll just have to find out for yourself (if you’re brave enough). This book also contains the Enigma of Amigara Fault and if you’re an Ito fan this story requires no introduction.

Best Purchase Ever!
The story line is amazing; captures horror in a mesmerising way and you never really know what’s going to happen. Some stories become predictable but not Gyo. The short stories at the end are both frightening and mysterious leaving the reader to determine the background context, varying from each person... it’s amazing.
