Colorado Gem Trails and Mineral Guide
I have been looking for this book for years and watch the show on the Weather Channel called Prospectors. It is all about minerals and gems. I also watch on the Travel Channel the Gem Show. I have learned a lot from this book and have not been able to find it in over 20 years. It originally came out in hardback and I was not able to obtain that, but a friend of mine has a copy of it dating back to 1972 which he will not let go of, but I was lucky enough to get this one. My brother lives in Colorado and I plan on using this to get some gems their in the mountains and this will be really helpful there.

Book is somewhat OUTDATED
The first edition of this book was published in 1958. Folks, this was 55 years ago. The last edition is 1972 and that is 41 years ago. The book is entitled "Third Revised Edition", so I take it that it is the reprint of the 1972 book. Things had changed between then and now.... quite a bit. New roads, new developments. Being a professional geologist, I found some useful information in the book, but have to say that the maps in their current form are confusing and hard to follow. So are the driving directions. Out of 4 different localities in the SW Colorado, I was able to find one successfully using the book. I found the rest as well, but if I would've followed the directions in the book, I would've never found them. I used different sources. GPS coordinates and better maps would be a definite upgrade. There are no N-S orientation in most maps. That is a no-no for any geological location chart. Saying that, the book, evidently was written by an amateur and cannot be considered as any serious source of geological information.

Almost what I was looking for
Needs to be revised. 1972 printing is a little out of date. All Black & White. Could use some color. A lot has changed since this was written.
