Original Adventures Reincarnated #1 - Into the Borderlands

A nostalgic adventuring odyssey through my past
Having played, or run, both of these adventures back in the days of "THAC0", I was both keen to revisit these fantasy landscapes of my past, through which I was first cast into the world of Dungeons and Dragons. I still have the originals though, so whilst I may have balked a little at the price, the attraction of having them in a single commemorative book form, as well as seeing a revised treatment that brings them up to date with DnD 5e, was too much of a temptation to resist. I was not in the least disappointed with my decision and will most certainly be making future purchases from Goodman Games "DND renaissance" catalogue. Admittedly, these books are probably aimed at ageing geeks like me, with fond memories of their DnD days in the 80s and 90s; but I am sure there will be a younger generation of geeks who take interest in the history of the game and its evolution, that will take pleasure in the whole work, as well as having a couple of great dungeon crawls to play with their friends. There are also some interesting introductory reflections and interviews with some key individuals who were involved in the original development of the modules, and those involved in this later revision who simply played them back in the day. This, together with how well presented and considered the whole package is, makes it a great value DnD offering that I would highly recommend to all aficionados.

A real homage to the much loved hobby
This is a huge book. It’s a labour of love and a real homage to the early days of d&d. To any OSR fan this is a must have and will rekindle memories of the game in the early 80s, or give you a real flavour of what it was like. There are articles from the likes of Luke Gygax and Mike Mearls that tell of their first memories of the B1 and B2 module that really set the scene. They are a joy to read and you realise they are just enthralled in the hobby as we are. In this 384pg book there is a glossy colour reprint of the original artwork and an updated 5th edition of the modules that are expanded upon and improved. Perhaps WOTC can learn from goodman games as what you get for the money is fantastic. WOTC versions of reprint of classic modules seem lacking in comparison such as they tales of the yawning portal. Into the borderlands is over indulgence but I absolutely love it. Definitely a favourite in my collection.

A quality piece of classic nostalgia…
Goodman Games has hit the mark with this fantastic series of expanded re-releases. “Into the Borderlands” is a chunky, high quality product that comes with a hefty dose of loving nostalgia.Of course adventures have developed massively over the subsequent half century of fantasy roleplaying in terms of sophistication and narrative content, but taken as simple, instructive, funhouse dungeons, these two classics (B1 & B2) are still great to play. The series as a whole is a brilliant collector’s piece, too.
