GREAT book set!
Just introduced this set of books to my 8 year old niece yesterday. I told her she needs to read at least 3 chapters if she wants to make cupcakes (she tends to put off reading lately) but surprisingly she did not put the book down. She was soo captivated by the story, the characters, the suspense that she read it ALL in one sitting. She also said she can’t wait to read the next book 🤗📚🐛 great purchase !

Perfect for 1st graders
A to Z Mysteries series is a wholesome, funny bunch of mystery stories that have enough twists and turns to keep my daughter interested, and enough clues that she can mostly solve the mystery before Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose. In the books these kids are always trying to help others and do the right thing. Author has mastered this art very well and these books convey this message very effectively to our kids. There's nothing scary in these books, the chapters are short, and everything wraps up nicely at the end of each book.We wanted to give our daughter books that are not very big but characters and stories that would keep her engaged. She loves the characters and can easily relate to them. She even dressed like Ruth Rose when there was character day in her school. We have most of these books and she is eager to get the ones that she doesn’t and complete the set. This set was ordered as return gift for her 7 birthday party and her entire class loved it.Moral of each book: good guys win, bad guys lose.

Keep kids reading
Expensive, but worth every penny to see my granddaughter’s face when she opened them. She is eight and loves this series.

An engaging series for young minds...
What a rewarding series of books! We have the entire series, and several of the other series by the same author, and we've found that the A to Z Mysteries thoroughly engage our first grade daughter. The books are quite readable for young readers. Our first grader reads and understands what is taking place. There's not a lot of difficult language or concepts, and the author quite often takes the time to describe or define a term that might not be all that familar to a youngster. Our daughter as learned a bit of patience in this regard. She's eager to ask if there's a work she doesn't understand, but she now trusts the author to explain things in the very next sentence. The mysteries are usually well crafted and interesting. They challenge readers to try to figure out "who did it" and often offer a twist or surprise in the end. The author never cheats - the clues are all there. And when kids figure out who did it before the end, the books remain engaging and fun as an explanation is offered as to why the deed was done.A word of caution for parents - the children in these books are sometimes in precarious predicaments, but they always end up safe and sound. Nevertheless, if you're looking for a conversation starter, you'll find some within the pages of these books. Do the young detectives (there are three, two boys and a girl) always make the wisest choices while investigating an event? No, they do not. But there are consequences for those choices. The young detectives are never left in harms way for very long, but the author does make use of the "cliffhanger" at chapters' ends. These young detectives are quite self aware, and they are open and honest. They know that a worried mother might disapprove of their efforts to track down the teenager who videotaped a bank robbery, and they talk about it in the book. But the group always travels together, and they usually know when to get an adult involved on their behalf. You will find the mysteries much easier to solve than those presented in Encyclopedia Brown books, although for older readers of mysteries, the Brown books are very good, too. Younger readers get frustrated with Brown as the solutions to myteries are often over their heads. Not so in the A to Z mysteries. The author also takes time to develop characters. Several books into the series (if you start with A, which is really the best place to start) you will have gotten to know the personality of each young detective, and other characters recur from book to book. The writing is as tight as appropriate for young readers, and there's plenty of description to absorb a young mind. The series has some special editions that are available for purchase separately. Those editions are longer, but well worth the read. This is a fine series and if you can find the complete set, you'll often get a real price break per book. I highly recommend the books, as well as the author's other series (The Capital Mysteries, for example, with different young detectives, all of which take place in Washington D.C.).

One of the few ways to get my son to read...
For whatever reason my son LOVES these A to Z mysteries book. I basically told him that anything educational or related he can always get, and this set was that particular case. He hasn't read them all just yet, as certain subject matter interests him more, but whatever it takes to get him motivated to read!

No box with this set
Bought as a gift. Books were new, and all were accounted for, but read the description carefully, because I did not: This is not a boxed set. Also, each book says intended for the school market, published by Scholastic. This did not come from Scholastic or through a school.

And They Are Written At A Level That He Can Read And Comprehend The Bulk Of The Words/Concepts Independently. I Highly Recommend These.

Excellent set of books but a shame it’s awful expensive
I Purchased this set of books for my granddaughter’s third-grade classroom as a Christmas gift to the teacher. Her original set was practically falling apart from all the years and I’m sure she loved having a new set for her classroom.

3rd grader LOVES IT
Yessss!!! Finally a series of books that my 3rd grader is excited about. Each book of the series has a mystery to be solved. Of course, all children have their own aptitude and natural reading speed, but for my little girl, each book takes her a day or so to complete. Some of the books are a bit spooky, but they all have solid explanations and shouldn't give your child nightmares. In my house, all readers spend a half an hour to an hour a day with a book, and this series is a great way to keep my oldest on track with her reading without needing to make weekly trips to the library. (Yes, shake your finger at me that I am too lazy to make it to the library every week ...I deserve it!).

Highly recommended
My son (non-native English speaker) has been struggling reading English books in his school, but his teacher recommended him to try one of these series. My son found it (Absent Author) so interesting that he asked me to buy the rest of the series. Now he's reading them every evening, spontaneously. This series definitely provoked my son's reading interest. Highly recommended.

Great mystery book set for 3rd grader
Great book set! My daughter came home and talked about one of these books she read in school. So I got the whole set in hope to fuel this excitement. And it did! She read through the books like opening christmas presents.

but my third grader seems to enjoy them a lot
I have not read these books, but my third grader seems to enjoy them a lot! She reads half of a book one night and the other half the next night, so 2 days per book. Should be finished soon!
