Nice product for the right price
This is a pretty solid product as I would imagine as this is Amazon’s top seller. The 4” pole makes it look very sturdy. The backboard has a steel frame and is also very sturdy. The instructions were ok but also used YouTube to help assemble. Not as bad as others has said. You can also use the bilt app to see step by step instructions. The backboard does shake a little but is expected with all portable hoops. It adjusts to any height easily. For this price, the quality is very good. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a basketball hoop.

Not as hard to put together as other reviews suggest
I was really nervous to start putting this thing together after reading all the reviews, but honestly this was not difficult at all to construct.First, use the Bilt app they recommend in the manual. The app shows 3D renderings of every step. You can look at it on the app from different angles, zoom in/out etc.It is time-consuming to build -- I think it took me roughly three hours to put it together -- but it is not hard at all. All the nuts and bolts and screws are in little baggies and the instructions tell you which bag of hardware to grav for the next several steps. No, the hardware itself isn't labeled but with the way the app works I never had any issues knowing which hardware to work with for each step. To be clear, I'm not handy at all.Once constructed, this is a very high quality product. We love the plexiglass backboard and the mechanism to raise and lower the height of the hoop is so easy my 8-year old can do it with one hand.Overall great product that I expect will last decades.

Great Basketball System!
I bought this for my son after his basketball hoop backboard broke. One of the main reason I got this one was for the "shatterproof backboard" which remains to be seen how long it will last. The system was a pain to put together, I would recommend 2 people if possible. Once it was put together though it looks great, feels sturdy and after several months so far no issues. One of my favorite features is the adjustable height system. It's so much easier than the last system we had and can even be done with one hand...it's really easy! My son is really enjoying it and so far no issues at all. Hoping it lasts longer than the 8 years the last one did.

Works perfectly. Complicated assembly.
ASSEMBLY/INSTALLATION TIPS:1) Pay very close attention when assembling the post. what you do here is not easily reversable so you must get it right the first time. there are slots in the bottom section of post (that gets cemented in the ground. These slots will be parallel to the back board. THERE IS NO ADJUSTMENT after installation! you Must get these slots lined up with you court layout before your concrete sets up. This is the main reason I dinged this item a star. This was stated in the instructions, but it wasn't called out clearly and almost cost me dearly. Also, make sure you line up the screw holes with the slot on the other two posts. I don't think you will be able to turn the posts once they are "tapped" together.2) I know this is a pain, but go through all the parts and figure out which letter code belongs to each screw, nut and washer. You may even need a tape measure here. There are plastic and metal parts that are similar in size, but go in different places, so you will want to know which is which. I would even put them in labelled piles/bags. If you don't do this. you will spend a lot of time staring at pictures and fumbling through the instructions trying to figure out what you need.3) Plastic bushing are used between parts that move or rub, metal parts are used as spacers. As I said before, there are both metal and plastic parts that look similar are included. In general, the plastic pieces go between two major parts that may rub against each other as the mechanism moves.REVIEW:I purchased this hoop for Christmas, but just recently got it installed during a break from this winter. I don't know how many people are buying permanent-install basketball hoops any more, all I seem to see are the "portable" ones. I went the permanent route because I live in a windy area and I am lazy. I know I would leave a portable one out to be blown over and broken. Overall, I am very pleased with this product. The backboard sounds a little hollow, but that isn't surprising to me for a product in this range. It is sturdy and bounces true, and that is what really matters. 10 ft sure seems a lot higher to me with a clear backboard outdoors, but that could just be me getting old. One thing to note is that there are no "stops" in the adjustment mechanism that I can feel. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. It is good, because if you are a little on your installation of the post, you can still get the hoop to the right spot (i do mean a little, you can't go much over 10 feet). On the other hand, you will probably need to spend a little time with a tape measure and magic market making your own registration marks if you plan to adjust this very often.First things first, the packaging for this is big and heavy. If you aren't going to install it right away be prepared to look at it, work around it, and deal with it in general, because you WILL notice it sitting around. I did not have any of the problems I have seen on here with missing parts or damaged pieces. Everything was intact and pretty well packaged. I did have a few things floating around in the box where they shouldn't have been, so I would recommend taking inventory while you are still in the return period.I was able to assemble this by myself without too much frustration. I wouldn't recommend doing the final few steps of the install yourself unless you are tall and strong like me or like hernias, but it is possible for some people. The assembly is a complicated process with a lot of parts that are pretty similar. I am pretty mechanically-inclined, but there were a couple times where I had to disassemble stuff I had already put together and do it again. All told, I would estimate that I spent 3-4 hours putting this together and installing it. The assembly instructions are middle of the road. I have seen both better and worse instructions.TL/DR? If you are looking for a cheap, permanent basketball hoop this will fit the bill. Just be thorough and careful when installing it and you will have an enjoyable setup in about half a day.

Nice Hoop…Easy Build w/o Power Tools
The media could not be loaded. Solid product. Build was easy with a basic ratchet set & drill for self-tapping screws. Just needed a bit more elbow grease. Not sure why so many bad reviews about building. The instructions were good & there is always YouTube with videos made by Lifetime. Some videos show folks upset about screws only going so far when told to “hand-tighten”…unless your bolt is cross-threaded, a bit of elbow grease gets it done. In the videos of dissatisfied customers, it sounded like their power tools were slipping.Weighed base down with water/gel filler & 4 x 50 lb. sandbags for good measure.Easy to lower for my 13 year-old, but harder to raise for him since he’s a lightweight ☺️Court will be smoothed out & laid down after the winter.

Quality Portable Basketball Hoop
Our first Spalding hoop tipped over in a storm and broke, so I tried this one. Most people are complaining about the assembly and difficulty, and yes, it is challenging to assemble. NO WORSE THAN ANY OTHER HOOP AVAILABLE! It is definitely a 2 person job towards then end when attaching the backboard to the pole. One thing I hated about the assembly were the self tapping screws that were required to attach the plastic guards on the back board. Terrible design.Once assembled, it is an excellent quality hoop!

Hire 2 people to build this for you if you don't want the headache, hassle and minor surgery on your middle finger.
After reading many people's experience on the installation of this hoop, many saying it takes 4+ hours and some saying even ALL Day, I went with the route of posting an AD on Kijiji for assistance, and I am soo glad I did. I offered $150 and over 10 people responded. I called up some people and had a nice guy come to help. Unfortunately it went south right from the start. Here is my tale. When he first started, the poles were not aligned correctly, and stuck together almost permanently. No amount of MacGyver skill will bail you out of this situation. THANKFULLY, after calling customer service, they recommended to drop the combined poles on the ground horizontally 40 times on a blanket, and they would separate. After 30 LOUD drops scaring the crap out of all neighbors, the poles did separate. Also customer service offered to send me free replacement poles if this didn't work. This impressed the hell out of me. KUDOS to this company. 2 hours later, I needed to assist as this in NOT a one man job. I held the partially assembled backboard and reclining poles, and when the weight of the backboard fell to one side, my fingers got caught in the reclining mechanism, causing the middle finger to squish out the meat of my finger bursting out from flesh, creating a 1.5 inch gash. I thought I actually lost my finger. I then managed to push all the flesh of my finger back into the skin and then sit and stare at the mangled flesh, thinking about how the hell I will continue project managing my $20 million IT project the next morning. Luckily the "shock" subsided and I decided to just drive myself to the hospital for minor surgery and stiches. The next day, my contractor was happy to come back and finish the job for another $150. I also had a buddy help out and didn't accept his refusal for $100 for the favor. All in all $450 for the hoop, $400 for labour, minor surgery on middle finger, and the happiness watching the kids play on a sturdy top of the line portable hoop, that is moderately mobile even after filled with water = Priceless. Lessons learned: don't build this yourself unless you have plenty of non-billable time and 2 teenaged sons to help you and you are over 6 feet tall and love putting together 100 metal parts for 4 hours.

Sturdy and strong
I was concerned about spending so much but the value is clearly in this product. Its very sturdy. The adjustment of heights is incredibly easy and seems very secure. The net has gone thru some abuse. The whole thing was left out in the ice storm and fell over with a big slam. I thought it would be shattered and the net pushed out of alignment... nope. We were finally able to get it out and its undamaged.

My two boys (ages 14 and 17) put it together. It took several hours but they figured it out and they love it!
