Perception
I didn't realize what I had ordered,I was thinking it was a flash diffuser this gadget requires a little more effort to use and seems more functional in smaller locations as it's purpose is to bounce light. If that's what your purpose is, then this is your gadget. I found the flash diffuser I was looking for a few days later and it only cost me 1/4 the price.

okay in a pinch
this definitely makes a difference, but I found that you still had to have just the right lighting to use it. I finally ordered a speedlight- MUCH bettr results (obviously- ass it costs so much more!)seller was great- quick shipping and item came as described

NIfty Little Device
I have been into photography since I was 9 (I will be 47 on my next birthday). So I truly enjoy picture taking.I got my new "Light Scoop" yesterday and already I can see a difference in my pictures. Without a doubt, Professor Kobre's wonderful concept takes photography to a refreshing destiny. I have use bounced flash for years (and I definitely recommend it). It (bounced flash) is one of the greatest secrets of my photography, that and shooting in raw files instead of jpeg.First, let me say, there is a cool little bag that comes with your "Light Scoop". I mention this first because I don't think anyone else is mentioning it. It really helps to have some place to put your Light Scoop when you are not using it. But let me warn you. If you think you will put it away often then think again. This device is the coolest thing invented for DSLRs since the flash was invented. Now you can take amazingly stunning pictures that are not only breath-taking but it's also easy to use, providing you follow the instructions.I have found the Light Scoop to be useful with ISO 400-1600 on my Canon Rebel cameras and although you CAN shoot with lower ISOs the pictures are usually too dark. So don't be afraid to turn up the ISO. I have found that the camera will take very good people pictures even at ISO 1600. That's because as long as you have enough light then the ISO 1600 does a decent job of recording a scene. However, if you want to do some professional portraiture work then shoot in the ISO 400 range, just make sure you are standing close to a wall and so is your subject.Let me point out that while bounced flash looks good bounced from a ceiling it looks even better bounced from a wall so give this technique a try and you will enjoy the results.I bought the warm version of "Professor Kobre's Light Scoop" because I love making the flash more closely match the ambient light level's temperature in my home. But let me just say if you want to make the color cooler like the standard Light Scoop then just set your camera's white balance to the tungsten setting. Plus you will have the added effect of the color of the flash matching the color of the lights in the room. And you can always dial up or down the ambient light levels by adjusting the exposure compensation on you camera. I shoot anywhere from -2 stops under to +1 stop over, depending on what I'm shooting for.All in all, this device, Professor Kobre's Light Scoop, is by far the best thing to buy after you buy your camera. I have a Canon 430 EX II speedlite but I use the Light Scoop whenever I need to shoot indoors in my home during the holidays. It keeps from intimidating my subjects by NOT using my big flash. Plus, the Light Scoop hides the flash from going off directly into the eyes of the subject and thereby disturbing their composure.Get this device now and you will be very glad you did!

Incorrect Name
When i originally purchased this the name of the product was "Professor Kobre's Lightscoop, Kit Contains 1 - Standard Version and 1 - Warm Flash Device, Universal Models". To me that meant that I was going to receive both the standard version and the warm version. Apparently that is not the case, unfortunately. I received only the warm version...and would much prefer the standard.I guess I should have known it was too good to be true....I just wanted to make sure no one else got sucked into the same trap.EDIT: I've decided to keep the warm version...and have created a "standard insert", made out of aluminum foil...to slide in front of the mirror. This seems like it is working perfectly so far.

Useful lightscoop
This devise is pretty handy, however, it does not work with all SLR cameras.. it did not fit on my Nikon 600... so I was disappointed that I had to send it back.

Great light, and perfect for balanced indoor lighting
The Lightscoop is probably one of the best built-in flash light modifiers on the market. I always tried to avoid using built-in flash on my DSLR cameras until this device came around. Rather than having ugly flash photos with occasional red eye, the lightscoop bounces the flash above and behind you to create a more natural and professional-looking light. The "Warm Version" is designed to add warmth to your images, but there's a little trick that makes it PERFECT for use indoors with incandescent/tungsten lights ... set your camera's white balance to tungsten/incandescent.If you're shooting indoors (particularly in the evening) with incandescent/tungsten lights (regular light bulbs) and use flash you'll end up with ugly "mixed lighting" where part of the photo looks yellow/orange and part looks white/blue. By using the Warm Version of the Lightscoop it makes your flash look more like a tungsten/incandescent light source ... so changing your camera's white balance to match the indoor lights gives you almost perfectly balanced light rather than ugly mixed lighting. Also, per the instructions on the Lightscoop website, set your camera's built-in flash to +1 ... because the Lightscoop will make the flash look darker than normal (because it's bouncing the light off the ceiling or wall).Bottom line: Buy the Lightscoop. It makes the built-in flash on your DSLR a useful light source rather than a waste of space.

Good idea, but doesn't work on certain cameras.
Interesting idea, but it will not work on a Canon T3i. The newer cameras must sense when something is fit into the hot shoe and this turns off the flash. The flash will never fire with this, or any auxiliary device in the hot shoe. I emailed the manufacturer and received no response. Returned product.

It works!
I would give it a 5, but it seems like it was slightly used (a few scratches). The product does what is advertised. I used it right away and the lighting was really soft, nice and glowing. I had to turn up the ISO in some cases. Some of the photos were coming out a bit dark. So make sure you have decent light. Nonetheless, I would recomment this product. It was worth the purchase.
