Good Side Stories
Side story volumes can be hit or miss, hit in that it provides insight into the characters, miss in that it interrupts the action. Unfortunately, this one is a mix of both, while it does provide insights into Kirito and Asuna and their role in Aincrad, it does little to provide us with anything in the way of whats next. This aspect of knowing whats next is especially important considering a reader would want to know if Kirito is going to meet with any of these characters (well except for two) in the real world. I think this was one flaw of the volume 1 ending, in that, while it could end there we had little to nothing on if Kirito and Asuna would find each other and how they would do it.Beyond that, it is a great volume with each story providing nice little details and stories in Aincrad. The volume kind of made me wish we had a chronologically incremental level by level telling of the story instead of a story that jump from 25 floors or more at a time.Ultimately, the anime fixes much of this by intertwining volume 1 and 2 into a 14 or so episode thing to fit more in line with what I want, but, it still jumps around. In any case, best stories here were the emotional ones with characters trying to find that companionship and warmth of another person in a world where they’re either lone wolfs, afraid to fight for their lives, or craving that human touch.Really good story.

Buy the first 3!
I love this series! I originally read it on deployment when out at sea to the pacific and it kept me completely busy. It’s great to read at night before bed. My little 10 year old sister is now obsessed with manga and I thought this would be a good read for her. I got for her birthday and she is already telling me how much she loves the characters. The quality of the book is good, it’s paper cover. I’m not worried of any damage when she received it. It arrived in great condition! I got my sister the first 3 books ordered together, it was much better price.

An Emotional Joy Ride.
Wow what an emotion ride this book was. Sword Art Online : Volume 1 was such an amazing light novel. I absolutely loved it. Though there was a big time jump at the beginning of the book. Volume 2 definitely helps to fill it in. This book is not a continuation but are the side quests of Kirito told from other character's point of view. At first I was hesitant to read it cause I wanted the continuation but once I picked it up i did not put it down. I read it in one reading. I must say how emotional it was. I laughed & cried. I'm a 30 year old man with a heart of stone so if this book can touch my heart the way it did then I know it will touch your heart as well. The characters that you're introduced to in this book you immediately can't help but love. It's told from their point of view and they talk about their encounter with Kirito from their point of view. Which is actually really fun cause you get to see how mysterious Kirito really is and also how bad ass he really is. The last story is told from Kiritos point of view and you get to see the struggles that he's going through with the game of Sword Art Online. And wow, I can't help but say how emotional it was. The writer makes you really feel for him. Infact, the writer really makes you feel for all the characters. What an amazing job the writer did with this book. I wasn't too thrilled with my expectations for the 3rd book cause I haven't read it yet but the premise didn't seem too promising. Though after reading the first 2 books, especially volume 2, I now have complete faith in this writer and trust that my expectations for the third book will not only be met but be far exceeded then what I can even imagine. Now I'm on to read book 3.

Excellent side stories
This collection of side stories from Kirito's time in the world of Aincrad are entertaining, and along way they do a nice job of filling out his character, which was a bit underdeveloped from the first volume.

Another Brilliant Book by Kawahara!
Another excellent read! With the first novel being the main story line, this 2nd novel is the side story arcs within Kirito's adventure inside the Sword Art Online story arc before progressing on to Alfheim Online (ALO)This novel contains four stories:1) Silica the Beast-tamer2) Lisbeth the Blacksmith3) Yui the Mysterious Orphan4) Sachi of the Moonlight BlackcatsIf you have watched the anime, these stories will already be familiar but still a awesome read :-)Easily recommended if your a fan!

My daughter is addicted to this series
After watching the anime my daughter was desperate to read the books, I'm so glad she decided to read them, shes now on book 6!This is book 2 and like book 1 totally drew her in and she couldn't stop reading, even got up earlier in the morning to read. Apparently, they are amazing!This/these books have turned my daughter into a book worm and I so happy about that.

Great series
Great series but is only side stories. I would recommend skipping and sticking to the main story especially if you have seen the show.
