Asus X200CA-HCL1104G 12 inch Touch Screen Laptop (1.5 GHz Intel Celeraon 1007U processor, 4GB RAM, 320GB HHD, Windows 8)

I purchased this laptop to replace my Toshiba Satellite P505D-8000. It was a multimedia machine. look up the specs, but I bought this little guy to work on school while at work. Since the toshiba only got 45 mins of batttery life so the 3-4 hours of life that I have gotten is most impressive. Here is some real life battery drain. Try running the back up of a 320gb HDD through the usb3.0 port, then plug in an external disk drive to rip cd's to the itunes library while applying updates and run Left for Dead 2 at 32~37 fps with two hours up time without charger. granted its not 7-9 hours of what its brothers and sisters that also cost 2-3 times what this little guy costs, you get your moneys worth in regards to the battery. The processor runs as well or on the same level as my previous i3 in a separate laptop. its quick and get rid of the heat easily. I will be purchasing one of these to give to my wife as she is now using this and enjoys how easily she can use it. Word to the wise. upgrade to 8.1 if at all possible. Win8 was a mess and 8.1 fixes alot of mis-steps.

Would I buy again, probably not. I have been using it for 4 months. I broke the display,my fault, and It cost $ 147 to get it fixed. I considered buying something else but couldn't find anything for less than $ 200 so I got it fixed. Sometimes the touch screen wont work and I use the touch pad which seldom works so I use the clicker, one of these always works and I am more forgiving than most so lets call it an minor inconvenience. I did just recommend the Asus 100 to my Son who is replacing his Dell laptop and is interested in a tablet. He is a Doctor and could buy anything he wanted but we are Scottish and frugal. So would I recommend this to a friend? I would ask him to read this and he probably wouldn't buy it. I should add the main reason I bought this was because of the HDMI port which I use to stream movies and it works wonderfully for this.

When I ordered this notebook, I wasn't sure how well it would perform with Windows 8. Boy am I happily surprised! The laptop is running like a champ. It's also light and very portable, almost like a larger netbook, exactly what I wanted. I'm primarily using it for web development on the road so I'm not exactly pushing it to the limit with games and such, but it runs everything I need it to really well. Thanks Asus! Nicely done.Note, first thing I did was uninstall the antivirus trial (mcafee) and games that it came with, and optimize the performance settings. Also I was required to install all updates before the upgrade to Windows 8.1 was available. I'm running Chrome for web browsing and XMBC for a uPnP media client, xampp for a web development server and CodeWriter for editing code (I haven't tried Eclipse on it yet).

I love it. It's a laptop for ants, just what the doctor ordered.Pros:- I got this as a traveling servicemember. Sometimes you need every corner of your life small and transportable. This laptop meets the bill. Just %50 more expensive than my crap chrome book but actually more functional than an undersupported smartphone, even when I got my full desktop, I was still hooked on this little guy. Does the job without a hitch.- Touch screen. Yes.- Price. Yes.- Video games? Killing floor, Rome: Total War. Pretty high settings. Definite high resolution. Use that as your bench mark. I was surprised this little guy could play games at all let alone with relative ease.Cons:- Windows 8. Why? Just.. why? Why would you dumb down your OS for the sole purpose of making your tablets look better? Why?- Keyboard is not illuminated. Makes for a lot of squinting and bending into your laptop searching for F-whatever keys.
