The process starts with the hand cut collar being dipped and then left too steep for 24 hours in Chinese rice starch, the collar is gently removed to be hand fashioned on a gas lit steel roller where it is then polished to a fine shine. Stiff collars are to be worn with a collar-less (or tunic) shirt and attached by means of a short back stud and a long front stud.
