Beautiful pattern! Will have to do some altering in the pattern because it only goes to a woman's size 20 and I might need the top portions a bit bigger than a size 20... but it will work! I love the Historic Butterick sewing patterns!

Butterick B4827 for Lord of the rings costume
I used this pattern for a Lord of the Rings themed wedding costume based on Eowyn's blue dress. I measured at a size 16 because of my bust size but it ended up being really huge. I took in the seams 1/2" all the way around in case I didn't utilize my seam allowances but it still ended up being really big around the chest and waist anyways. The chest was so loose that I decided to cut a new neckline and make it a sweetheart neck and then it looked acceptable. This was, by far, the most difficult thing I've ever made, but otherwise it was easy to cut, sew, re-size, and alter. The pattern itself was easy to alter with a curved ruler (I had to shorten the waist). I can definitely see myself using more Butterick patterns in the future, as I enjoyed using this pattern more than Simplicity.

Inaccurate, but not impossible
While the pattern isn't historically accurate, its not entirely impossible to adapt it for a medieval event or on stage. I've seen this style of cut used a few times, though most will migrate away to more traditional patterns eventually . If you want this style, but with a more period patten look for Medieval Kirtle or Cotehardie and you will start to see the difference. Otherwise, like I said, its not a bad pattern for the price and can be adapted - just don't use anything like the material they show this in and keep in mind that the pattern is designed for costuming, not re-enactments.If, however, you are looking to make a medieval costume then this style is a staple.

Buy it!
I bought it for the look but I ended up using only the back of the bottom so far and I love it. I would have gave it 5 stars but I never used the sleeves yet.

Good pattern bad service
Bought this pattern (sold by "fancy and frugal)and it was not as described it was supposed to be used but uncut and complete. It was missing two pages of instructions and only had half the pattern. If I wasn't house bound I'd try to return this but it's just not worth the $12. So watch out for missing pattern pieces people.

close enough
got this a while ago as a good starter piece for my SCA garb... just started to try and put it together. doesnt seem begginer friendly at all but then again sewing in general doesnt seem all that beginner friendly....but its nice that you can make just the dress and not the other stuff. though i wish there was some notes on how to make the back a solid piece instead of lacing or something, since i really dont have time to do that part.....but looking forward to finishing this up ...anyone saying its not accurate or that you'll get laughed at for using it? bah. if you like it, use it. I dont know what kind of groups they're talking about but in the SCA as long as there is an ATTEMPT at pre1600s garb, then its good. personally i see very little difference between this and the other dresses/kirtles/cotes that I've seen at events. even if so, its "creative anachronism" for a reason.

totally inaccurate
This pattern is Butterick's attempt to repackage a princess-line modern dress as a costume. Buy it to make yourself a wedding or prom dress, but if you wear it in a stage production or to an event where you are trying to portray a medieval woman, you will be laughed at. During all the centuries considered "the Middle Ages" there were no bodices or sleeves cut like this. If you can't draft your own pattern from graphs of real medieval garments, try B4377 Misses Medieval / Renaissance Gown. Google up "houpelande pattern" and find free sources based on actual surviving garments.

Velina, ma veramente velina
Trovare cartamodelli medievali non é facile, peccato che questi hanno una velina veramente sottile, dubito delka durata
