book contains interesting information, but not enough in itself to address migraines
I purchased this self-published book a couple of years ago. It does contain some interesting information, but it is disorganized, lacks an index, and is badly in need of editing. It also will not be enough to help you address migraines. For that, you will need to join Angela Stanton’s Facebook group, which contains more up-to-date information and details – lots and lots of constantly changing details – on how to follow what she calls the “protocol.” This is basically a no sugar low carb diet, proper hydration, and a lot of extra salt. There is lots of complicated information on balancing sodium and potassium, maintaining proper macros, and many other dietary details. I gave it a good try for about a year, when I went off sugar and all grains cold turkey. I spent hours balancing my food and really followed everything as closely as I could. The only thing I did not do was the recommended home testing for blood glucose, because what I was trying to do was eliminate migraines so I could improve my quality of life, and the whole blood monitor finger pricking thing definitely felt like I was medicalizing my life instead of improving it. That is just my own personal reaction, of course. Lots of people seem to enjoy testing their blood, so more power to them.At any rate, it is quite difficult to follow the protocol exactly, because you’re always going to get some little thing wrong, plus the instructions are in a constant state of flux. I did significantly reduce the number of triptans I was taking, though the severity of my migraines did not diminish at all. In May 2019 I got another massive migraine despite the diet, and shortly thereafter we left to spend a month abroad, when I decided to just abandon the protocol for a month and enjoy my food for a change. The only thing I did continue was proper hydration with added salt. To my great surprise, I went the entire month eating whatever I wanted with no migraine. At that point I decided to keep on doing what worked, that is staying hydrated and taking salt with each glass of water. I also concluded, as I had suspected for quite some time, that my migraines are hormonal and are not related to diet. So I tweaked my dosage of HRT, continued to eat what I wanted, and continued to use salt and water. And I have not had a real migraine since that last one in May 2019. I use over-the-counter Vanquish tablets to address prodrome, and most of the time that is all I need now. This is my own anecdotal experience, and obviously your mileage may vary. I do believe salt is one key to preventing migraines, and for that I am grateful to the group. Migraines are complicated animals and we have to approach them from a lot of angles. It should also be emphasized that many people seem to have had success with the dietary restrictions, so it makes sense to try the protocol for awhile and see if it works for you.That said, I recently left the group because I felt it jumped the shark with some unsupported generalizations and assertions about how to treat covid-19. Treating covid-19 should not be part of the group’s focus in the first place, and as far as I can see, there are no epidemiologists, virologists, immunologists, or other scientists in the group who would be qualified to expound on this subject (including Angela Stanton, who is not a medical doctor and does not have any medical or relevant scientific qualifications whatsoever). I will say that the group tends to have a cultish vibe at times, with occasional open hostility to anything deemed the medical “establishment.” And don’t get them started on vegans, because they seem to believe there is an international vegan conspiracy out there determined to destroy meat-eaters. You will not see much pushback on this stuff in the group, because comments can be and are censored. While I understand that one might want to keep some semblance of order and cohesion in the group, and you don’t want people willy-nilly advocating for drugs and traditional migraine treatments that obviously don’t work, on the other hand, if you are going to spout opinions on a novel coronavirus, you better be damn sure you know what you’re talking about. Actually, you would do better to stick to the subject of migraines.People can be really weird about food and diets, and you’ll definitely see some of that weirdness here. But if you’ve got migraines and nothing has worked for you, give it a try and ignore the tinfoil hat stuff, at least till you get what you need.2021 update: I no longer add salt to my water, and Vanquish continues to vanquish almost every prodrome. So I basically follow nothing of the "protocol" anymore, and the migraines continue to stay away. :)

This book changed my life!!! I am so grateful!!!!
I bought this book on Jan 20th during a particularly terrible migraine. I was quite desperate and stumbled across the Facebook group in a health forum. I have had migraines since I can remember, at least 5 years old. When my mom would take me to the dr they would tell her "just give her Tylenol" which never helped. It was a long time before I realized that most people aren't in pain most of the time. But except for six months after a car accident when I was in my 20's they would keep me home 4-5 times a month but I was still able to function. 3-4 years ago they started getting worse so I went to my dr. He threw a bunch of medicine at me and then said he couldn't do anything more. So I went to another dr, rinse and repeat until I was so frustrated (and missing so much work) that I referred myself to the USC pain center. I was then given nerve blocks, magnesium infusions, botox, SPG blocks, more and more and more medicine and none of it worked. I only got worse, until I have been off work for over a year and could barely take care of my 3 kids. At one time I would have been excited to be able to make dinner once a week, that is how bad it was. Constant pain, nausea, difficulty thinking, plus depression and anxiety until I didn't even know how I could go on. Then last October I tried the Keto diet and I felt a little better. I was able to at least participate in my life. On New Years Eve I had 1 piece of pizza and that was a mistake. All of my migraine symptoms came back and no matter how faithful I was to the diet I couldn't get relief. So in desperation in bed with an ice pack on my head and praying the triptans I took would work I found this book.This book is amazing, it is so simple and yet the difference in my life is something I can't even explain! It gave me my life back!!! I have not taken any medication since the day I found this book. I tried to understand it through my foggy head and started with the milk at night (I always would wake up with a migraine) and the salt and water (increasing my water slowly as suggested) and once I was feeling better started with the balancing of my sodium and potassium. I've been taking magnesium as well. I was already off of all sugar and grains. I have never in my life gone for 30 days without a full blown migraine. I have had prodrome but was always able to follow the steps in the book and take steps to abort the migraine before it happened.I am sooo grateful to Dr Stanton because she gave me my life back! She gave my husband his wife back and my kids their mother back! I don't have to spend my days in my dark bedroom praying I don't go through my 9 triptans before I can get a refill. I don't have to wonder if I should go to the emergency room because the pain is so unbearable. This book is the best thing I have ever read and I am so excited to be able to write this review. I wanted to wait until I was sure it was working so that I could write the most helpful review possible.I am also part of the Facebook group that Dr Stanton has and she is so helpful and kind. She and the other admins have done nothing but help me on this journey and I am so grateful!!!

Patience
If you suffer from migraine, I can highly recommend Angela Stanton's Book. Purchasing this book has been one of the best decisions I have made for myself. I have had migraines since I was 8 years old and am now 74.To make her theory work requires, that you follow the guidelines, and you need to be very patient, when you are going through this process; but in the end you will be so proud of yourself and happy, that you made the Book work for you.Thank you to Angela Stanton for having such a foresight of how learn to control your migraines.

A life changer
This is the real deal. If you truly want to understand Migraines, what causes them, and want to be able to live Migraine free, you have just or are about to purchase the most important book in your life. A life time of migraines that after an accident had me bedbound for 6 years, it wasn’t the spine injury but the migraines destroying my life, my spirit. The best thing I ever did was join dr Angela Stanton’s Migraine Group online. With the book things made sense. For some taking a pill may be easier, this you have to work at, commit to, commit to what you put in your body, but the profit is life changing. 2 1/2 years on I’m in a wheelchair (not bed), doing wire jewellery class’s, even though I cannot use my hands, I’m starting other classes and continue rehabilitation, Before dr Angela Stanton this was impossible. Traveling 10 minutes in a car was impossible, daily chronic migraines for over 6 years no more, I’m not getting paid to say this, I thought my life was over. Medications were numbing me, causing more side effects, making me sicker. Food the science of food. This is quality. This is not voodoo, but an intelligent, passionate, articulate writer, scientist, who suffered themselves and researched, tested theories and searched for the answers for themselves then shared it with the world, (the group is free). Pharmaceutical companies and migraines are big business, some will not be happy if it means losing money and you getting better. For the record this didn’t just change my migraine condition for the better (and for the record it’s not I’m cured and do what I like I still have to eat right use science of food to be migraine free every day, it’s a way of life now a good way of life). But pre-diabetic, extremely low blood pressure, hemiplegic Migraines, eating disorder, chronic fatigue syndrome, fybromyalgia as examples, it made improvements with all of these, no longer at risk of diabetes. My blood pressure while still low is not in the dangerous catergory anymore. I urge you to read this book with and open mind and to give it everything. If you follow the advice to a T you will be free of migraines, if you decide to ignore sections to make yourself feel taste ... you will be a slave still to migraines. I truly hope you feel as liberated as I do. I’m thinking clearer, faster and actually living instead of years in bed in a dark room, earplugs staring into nothingness because even that was painful. Enjoy this book as it takes you through the everything you need to know. A life changer...

Give it a chance and be open minded!
30 years of migraine and sometime ready to bang my head against a wall with pain, other time I was out for 3 days. I was ready to try ANYTHING. My research initially took me to the ketogenic diet and pot luck I came across a Facebook group dealing with migraine and Keto: that was July 2017, I contacted this group, started communicating with Angela Stanton, bought her book and read it. It took me a long time in between migraines to finish it (big book) and "digesting it" BUT with the help of her book and her (and the admins) support via Facebook, I would say 90% of my migraine disappeared within 6 months. Fast forward to Jan. 2019 and if I have a migraine (very rarely), I know why and it is usually down to bad choices on my part! Angela (and her admins) is very generous with her time and will help you as much as she can. If you are at a stage where you are desperately looking for a solution, are ready to really try out of the box solution (and yes it can be complicated at the beginning only) and have an open mind about the process she recommends then this book is a MUST. You will need to make some change to your life but at least you will have a better quality of life than before reading this book.

Just eat salt and hey presto we will be cured - what a waste of money!
Eat lots of salt - seriously!!! If it were that simple the medical profession would have told us that ages ago. Dangerous and unscientific. Avoid if you value your health and believe in science. Annoyed with myself for being taken in by the hype but desperation can make us stupid. Don't follow me and fall into that trap and waste your money on this book.

ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS BOOK AND PROTOCOL
I feel like this book has literally saved my life. I was suffering with headaches for years, but also lots of other health issues which felt hard to pin down, muscle weakness, tiredness, mood swings, digestive issues. I felt like nothing was helping and the doctors could find nothing significant. But I was feeling more and more hopeless and well this is it for me type thing. Then happened upon a brilliant article by Angela Stanton on migraines and immediately felt seen and understood. Finally I found something that was shedding light on my experience. I've been following the Stanton Protocol for about 3 months and everything is improving, strength, energy, emotional stability and feeling physically comfortable without pain!It's heartbreaking how so much incredibly supportive information like this is attacked because it empowers people to have the good lives they deserve but doesn't support the economic system and make anyone loads of money.Please please please make sure to check this out for yourself so you can know in your own experience what actually works!Thank you Angela Stanton! xxxxxx

awful ,do not buy.
As a scientist and doctor of medicine I was interested to explore this book. I should have explored the author's credentials before purchase and not bothered. It is full of utter woffly pseudo science, is very repetitive and a complete unintelligible read or reference guide. Save your money and look elsewhere for genuine support regarding migraine. The useful clinical info could have been condensed into a leaflet ( much more user friendly) and this is now destined for landfill.
