New Catholic Bible Leather Bound – Special Edition, 1 Jan. 2008

Perhaps it is my fault but I did not expect a compact edition. There is nothing in the item title to suggest it is not full size and having failing eyesight the font of this size bible is just too small to read, hence the 3 stars for it not being clear what edition it is. Regarding returning the item, being disabled I cannot drive and cannot walk far, the return option mentioned Collect+ which is just around the corner from me but then it did not list any as a drop off point. I now have it sitting on the side waiting to ask if someone can drop it off at a PO for me there being no other Amazon drop off points near me (just Hermes and PO are shown).

I'd read several reviews stating that this print is very small. I was put off at first, but if it was too small, I could always return it. I found it to be perfect. It is a very robust Bible, which should give many years of use.

My study bible died after 19 years by falling apart. I purchased this as a replacement, it has a small typeset but I was aware of that before purchase, it is ideal, also has page ribbons and is well referenced. I highly recommend this version of the Bible and if you want an extra quick delivery (1 day in my case) go for this one.

The main text of the CTS Bible is the Jerusalem Bible, with two exceptions. First off, the Psalms are not from the Jerusalem Bible, but are rather the Grail Psalms. Most of you in the United States who pray the Liturgy of the Hours will be familiar with them. Secondly, by request of the Pope, all references to "YHWH", which was one of the unique features of the Jerusalem Bible, have been changed back to "the LORD". What does all this mean? Well, basically this Bible is exactly the what one would hear at Mass in the English speaking world outside of North America, where the NAB and NRSV are used. Nice concept huh?The CTS Bible also comes with multiple study helps, including four Bible maps, full book introductions, including when a book is read during the liturgical year and why it is important in Christian liturgy, and verse commentary/notes. The book introductions and commentary were newly produced by NJB editor Henry Wansbrough OSB, member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission. The commentary notes often highlight historical-critical issues and they are not as plentiful as in the standard edition of the NJB. There is also a very helpful appendix with information on historical framework of the Bible, weights and measures, Sunday and Weekday Mass readings, and Psalms/Canticles for 4 week Breviary cycle with Office of Readings. Also, they added the nice touch of including not one, but three ribbon markers. Thank you very much! Overall, the CTS Bible has within it plenty of information, both scholarly and liturgically, to keep you satisfied.

It is much smaller than I expected. I have bad luck buying Bibles. They always seem to be made for midgets.

This Jerusalem bible is compact and can easily fit into your jacket pocket.The down side is that the print is very small and can be difficult to read in some lights.A useful bible for mass

It's a beautiful compact bible and I didn't find the letters too small to read. I recommend this product.I only didn't give 5 stars because it came with a finger mark on the side of the pages making the white paper look with a big grey spot. I'm perfectionist and I always expect everything new to come very clean. Anyway it's not a problem with the product. This could be the person who shipped it.
