Art is gorgeous, writing is... meh
I’ll admit upfront that I preordered this book based on the fact that I’ve loved the work of the artist Alice Zhang for a very long time. Please don’t get me wrong; the art is absolutely phenomenal and I plan on buying prints directly from the artist, but... somehow I didn’t make the connection of who the writer was. And I am really disappointed in the writing. The book couldn’t decide whether it was speaking from the perspective of the comics or the movies, and so many characters’ “entries” were muddled versions of both that weren’t true representations of either. The writing itself felt rather childish, and not in a good way—not in the sense that it was aimed at a younger audience, but as if the audience was being spoken down to. The decision that bothered me the most was their choice for the Wasp—you’re going to pick Hank Pym’s daughter from a shoehorned-in storyline over JANET VAN DYNE, founding Avenger, namer of the Avengers, businesswoman, fashion designer, survivor, one of Marvel’s first female superheroes? You’re going to make Jan the footnote in the story of a Pym. I don’t understand this decision, and it doesn’t make sense to me.I had such high hopes for this book, and to be let down so tremendously is a crushing disappointment.

AMAZING ART
I don't really know how to read, but I can look at pictures. And the art in this book is INCREDIBLE. As is typical of AXZ, the portraits are painterly, dramatically colored, and powerful. Usually, I spend hundreds of dollars collecting the best new art... I just got hundreds of new paintings, for like $10!?!? No wonder artists are starving. This book looks great on my coffee table. Also on my bookshelf! Maybe I should get another one? Maybe two? Can these be released as prints? How about as coffee mugs. Seriously.

Gorgeous book, fun read
This book is beautiful. It is full of characters I knew and many I didn’t. My children (7 & 4) like to pick a superhero and I can read all about that one woman in a few minutes but it is fun to also read in order. The writing style is easy and fun. The illustrations are gorgeous I just want them on a poster I can hang up.Highly recommend for any superhero fan (girl or boy) in your life.

Appropriate for kids
I bought this for my 9yo and 12yo daughters who are really getting into Marvel. While the writing can be a little dense for the younger one, this book keeps some characters (ahem... Black Widow) pretty PG, which I appreciate. With a page or two about each character's origins and powers, it was a great intro to characters they didn't yet know and provided a little more info on those they did. The consistent artwork throughout is G-rated, which again is greatly appreciated.

Gorgeous, and Chock Full of Awesome Ladies
I just received this book today and it was so gorgeous I actually cried. I can't say I've read it cover to cover yet, but I've looked over the entries of several of my favorite and I've been very pleased. There are SO MANY amazing Marvel ladies in this, seriously. As someone who grew up loving superheroes and reading comic books and wishing for more women in the stories, this is like a dream come true to have them all in one book. (And the artwork, in case you didn't hear it enough from the other reviews already, is AMAZING.)One of the things I love the most about it is that it not only includes a lot of familiar faces I already love, but it has quickly introduced me to a couple of characters that were relatively unknown to me (for example, the FIRST female Captain Marvel!! And it's not Carol Danvers!!). And it's deliberately diverse, showcasing women of all different races and backgrounds. I also personally appreciated that it finds a way to mingle traditional comic book "canon" with some of the MCU versions of characters. I find this smart, because I know a lot of people who are more familiar with the movies and shows than the comics (which have various and often muddled storylines anyway). If you have a Marvel-loving-lady in your life, I highly recommend getting her this beautiful encyclopedia of badass heroines.

Fantastic Intro to the Women of Marvel
This is an excellently written and well thought out book. Lorraine Cink knows her super hero ladies and puts that knowledge to good use. Each hero has an indepth entry that goes into how they got started and where they are now within the Marvel Universe. To back that up, the artwork by Alice X. Zhung is absolutely GORGEOUS. The book is definitely geared towards young adults (12-16) but DO NOT let that deter you! This book is great read and well worth the read, especially if you're new to the Marvel Universe.

Cute art, but requires prior comic knowledge
I bought this not knowing what to expect but here are my thoughts. The art is cool and there are some interesting facts in here but I don't think I'd recommend this to someone new to comics who wanted to learn more, or to someone interested in this for the facts at all. It kind of requires prior knowledge because some of the facts in here are picked from either older runs or from multiple different runs haphazardly . Also the way some characters like Mary Jane get the full spread meanwhile others like Peggy got one short page kinda makes one think that certain ones with less information are like that because they're not as well liked by the authors. Anyway, if you're buying this for the art then it's pretty cool but otherwise it's more of a novelty thing.

Marvel is amazing!
Started reading a bit of this to my grandbabies when they spend the night. I am far from a feminist, I actually hate modern day feminist, but my granddaughter will know she is capable of greatness, my grandson will know to accept greatness often comes from women, and men needto help lift them up.

Very misleading title.
If you're expecting a look at the powerful women of Marvel... sorry to disappoint you but this focuses on the ladies of the Avengers or Avengers related. Plus some females of the Spiderverse. There are no females of the Xverse or Fantastic Four.If I would have known of this prior to purchasing it I wouldn't have bought it.Not very open and transparent from the publishers/writers.

Super Empowering, Super Badass!!
Such a lovely book! To start off with, the artwork is absolutely beautiful. I think every drawing really captures the energy of each hero themselves. The writing is lighthearted, empowering and just super funny. It’s got a large selection of JUST SOME of the wonderful and powerful marvel women. This would make such a lovely gift to any marvel fan - young or old - and a especially empowering one for young girls. Five Stars! ✨💜

Really good actually
Really good book. Impressed at first blush I thought it's be a preachy kids book but the small print and professional watercolour like images make me realise this is for big geeks like me. Great addition to anyone's marvel book collection. Girls and boys.

It’s super
My daughter loved this book, showing her that it’s not just men that can be awesome but females can be “super” too
