Beautiful but Strange
The pictures in this book are lovely, and it's well put together, but the information in it is even more fruit-loopey than most fairy books, and she has a strange view of light vs. dark. I found it slightly disturbing and wasn't expecting it in this book.

Very Pretty Book
This work is almost like a mini coffee table book...lots of pretty pictures and tidbits of information and the writing is lovely, but overall it's not something you'd sit down with and then find it easy to put into practical application. It does talk a little bit about communicating with faeries and it does contain some spells, but it reads more like a brief overview than a full book. If each chapter had been expanded and gone further into aspects of the Fey and having a relationship with them, then it would have been a far more useful book in my opinion and not just a pretty one.The spells in the book are old ones for the main part, which makes them both interesting and also difficult to actually do unless you make a lot of substitutions or have access to a fairly extensive garden. Sadly, their source is not credited. But calling this a Faery Spell Book is a bit misleading, since there are only a handful of them in the text. Perhaps, the most interesting was regarding the use of the "toadstone," which I have read of before...but not in this context. The author talks about the Fey and their relationship to nature and how they fall somewhere between the angelic realm and the earth realm. This is probably based on the Christianized folklore regarding Faery, where they are sometimes referred to as being "fallen angels" who took up residence in the seas and earth and air. The author also calls the Earth Mother the "Earth Angel" and considers Her to be the Goddess. In fact, there is a lot in the book that seems to be based on the author's own personal terms for things and hearken to a cross between Pagan and New Age beliefs. If this is your sort of thing, then you might like it. If you want your view of Faery to be unsullied by Christian or New Age overlay, then you might not like it.Its a cute book and the pictures are nice and would make a okay present for someone into Faery, but not a book for those who truly wish to pursue deeper relations with the Fey. For that, I'd recommend reading works by Orion Foxwood and R.J. Stewart, among others.

Difficult
Well, what can I say? I absolutely loved this book, but Ican understand why people give it only 1 star; the language is a bit difficult, the information is full of fantasy and very dreamy but also very vague. This pictures on the other hand are beautiful, and I love the size and shape of the book, others might not, but I do because it's færie-sized and shaped. This little book reminds me of something nostalgic. Old and a bit Shakespearian. The whole Stratford-Upon-Avon vision.I would advice this book to those who are extremely good at English, and with English I mean UK English, because Claire uses alot of hard-to-understand words. I wouldn't recommand this book to those like (useful) information, because it's not that practical. It's more like theological information and something to keep in mind, but the færie spells all seem a bit strange to me. But once again, read it if you like pictures, but leave it if you like usuable information

An excellent little book
I have a lot of affection for this book because I bought it years ago when I did not believe in fairies and reading it made me open my mind and try to communicate with them. It worked. These days, I'm a Christian druid who works with nature spirits quite a lot and I feel I owe a lot to this deceptively small book. It probably is misnamed, as it isn't chiefly about spells, but if you're interested in the Good Neighbours, you will not regret buying it.
