A work of art in a game box!
One of the things that I must say about this is that it's a very beautiful game. The artwork is gorgeous, the board is beautiful, and I love the sculpting and the detailing on the figurines of this game.Gravwell is one of those games that is like a fine wine. You may be a bit taken aback at first by the mechanics, but once you get used to them and get better at it, it becomes a solid favorite. The objective of the game is to reach the warp gate first with your ship. At the start of the game, put aside everyone's 'Emergency Stop' cards, count how many players there are, multiply it by three, and deal that many fuel cards face-down. Then, deal one card face-up on each of those cards. Starting with the youngest player, each player takes a pile of cards until each has 6 cards in their hand. Now, you're ready to play! Each player chooses a card and puts it face down on the field. On the count of three, flip them up. Players move in alphabetical order this time, so let's say each player flips up an A (Argon), B (Boron), Z (Zirconium) and O (Oxygen). The player who played Argon will move first, Boron second, Oxygen third, and Zirconium last.To move your ship, check and see which ship is closest to you. Now, look at the colour of and number on your card. If it's GREEN, move your token a number of spaces equal to that number TOWARDS the closest ship. If you think that your ship is going to fall on the same tile as the closest ship, you move it ahead or backwards, depending on the direction you're going. If you get a high number, you have to keep going in that same direction. If it's PURPLE, you actually move AWAY from that ship. PURPLE is the Repulsor Beam, which pushes you OFF of the nearest ship. If the card is BLUE, however, you don't move. All other ships in the game actually move towards YOU instead, so start with the ship furthest away from you, and move it towards your position that many number of spaces, all until you get to the last ship.If there's a tie and two ships are equal distance away from you, count the number of ships behind your ship and in front of your ship. The side with the most ships has the stronger gravity, so that ship is treated as being close to you. If you run out of fuel cards, move the white bowling pin marker to the next round, shuffle the discarded fuel cards, and deal them again. Keep doing these steps until somebody wins! With a moderator and some practice, this can be a fun game. It took the kids at my library a while to get used to this game, but those that finally understood it had a blast, and even requested this game a lot during Board Game Fridays. However, there are some downsides. The pieces are kinda fragile. One of the derelict ships broke off inside of the box, and I had to use a hot glue gun to fix it. Twice. The side of the box cover split after a few openings as well. Also, for the love of BeJesus, PLEASE use card sleeves when playing this game with children. If a card rips or tears, that card won't be suitable for future playthroughs, and it'll tarnish the presentation of what is a beautiful looking game.I recommend this game for board game enthusiasts, and children 10 and up. Young children may not appreciate or even understand the finer nuances that this game has to offer, and may be frustrated by the unique rules. Older children, with some guidance, can enjoy this game.

Never laughed so much playing a game.
My wife and I played a 2 player and then a 4 player game and couldn't stop laughing. Every time you think you just got ahead you're losing again. This game takes about 40 minutes not 20 like it states here. If you aren't an instruction reading person get on youtube and watch the Watch It Played video it's only 10 minutes or so and you'll be up to speed on how to play. You spend more time going backwards back to the singularity than you do going forward I think. It took us a LONG time to win either game but we had fun and it was actually a surprise who was going to win the last game since we had a bunch of ships grouped together (love those tractor beams).I think this game would be more fun with 4 players than 2. Yes it's limiting in its playing mechanic of moving toward the ship closest to you (or highest number of ships closer to you) but it's still a fun diversion.

Renegade games Rule - Super simple, yet super strategic!
I have come to learn that the company Renegade rarely if any, disappoints me. This game is no exception. It couldn't be any simpler in terms of its rule set. Plain and simple, the nearest ship to you exerts its gravitational pull on your ship. But, this can have unexpected consequences depending on who gets to go first! You want to be the first to the gate, but you could unexpectedly end up moving in the opposite direction. You can only cancel unwanted effects once per round using a special "brake" card. After that, you need your wits to keep you going in the correct direction.I love games that are simple in concept, yet still require a certain amount of thought and strategy. This is one of those games. I was very happy to add this to my growing game collection. If you like games that fit the description I've given above, you can't go wrong. This is in the same vein as "programming" games like robo ralley, except it's infinitely easier.

Awesome game but disappointed in broken pieces
This would definitely get 5 stars if it came intact, but the broken pieces are super disappointing. We had three broken ships when we opened the box. It doesn't make a difference in gameplay, they are just pedestals for the ships, but they have a serious quality control problem. As for the game, it is very quick to learn and has a ton of replayability. We have played it with two and three players in our family and both were fine, though adding the third player definitely makes it more of a challenge. We are planning to take it to a gaming night to introduce more people to it, especially because there are so few rules. If you want to see how the game plays, check out the Watch It Played videos on YouTube. That is how we found out about the game.

Simple but ...
It is a very simple game as others have commented on but that helps with this game to keep the pace going and simply just because they didnt have to make it that complex. The goal was accomplished etc, it is a quick game with the longest time being which card to play and thinking of what the other person will play to help or hinder your choices. Anyways, i will recommend this game (with the bonus that my copy was just fine and not damaged in any way unlike some of the other comments.)

One of my all-time favorite games!
This is such a great game. My friends and I played it and I can't tell you how many times we burst out laughing or cheering when someone made a mistake or made a great move. I love board games in general, but I highly recommend this one in particular. As an added bonus:We developed a set of house rules called "Flight Plan" to modify this a little bit. After you finish mining, you put your cards in the order you want to play them, then put them face down in a deck on the table. From that point on, you can't change the order for the rest of the round. It makes the game go much faster and opens up the potential for pure hilarity.

Tolles Spiel

Fantastic Intro Game
The game is fantastic for 'introducing' players to more unusual board games. It has all the hallmarks of more complicated games with a deeper layer of strategy and a slight disengagement from directly messing with other people, While maintaining the ability feel like a game that children can approach. If you're just using it to open a evening of gaming or to introduce friends to the more unusual board games and the wider world of them, this is a must have. However for the avid board gamer it doesn't quite hit every note, it feels just a little too simplistic and lack some of the nuance and strategy that is the hallmark of other modern board games. If you're looking for a simple, easy to learn, easy to play game with enough strategy and depth to make players enjoy themselves, It is absolutely worth your time. If you're looking for a highly tactical gravity slingshot based racing game with lots of options to manipulate the board and mess with people. This isn't really going to answer that desire.

Not Worth It
Its a good game, but its not worth it, not £35(or More!?!) anyway. it comes with about 30 cards and 6 unpainted ships of ok'ish Quality and that's basically it, i don't know where the price hike came from, but it should be more around the £20-£25 mark. As I said Its a good game and I hold nothing Against it but it is Not good value for Money.Make sure this is what you Really Want Before ordering! I've got Much Better Games for Much better Prices.

Great fun with an interesting game engine!
Really interesting game engine, not like anything I have played before. A lot based on chance over skill which can get demoralising but this is a great 'filler' game. We have played it a fair few times now and you can make an effort to counter luck by using your cards sensibly, but it won't remove luck from the game.Really good fun and like I said a good filler!
