What are the dimensions of the cup storage slots?

My cups aren't quite 3.5 inches high and 3.5 in diameter on top. There slots are about 4 inches square and 4 inches deep. Hope this helps.

how do you pack dinner ware in a round container when your dinner ware is square?

None of my china is square per se, but I did put some odd size items in the plate storage, wrapping them first in with a piece of felt and then bubble wrapped them before putting them in the storage container, or if there was plenty of extra room, I added styrofoam worms (?). that worked well.
