Castelli revamped its revolutionary Free Aero Race Shorts for 2015, making them even more breathable, aerodynamic, and supportive than the previous model and introducing a bib-free option for riders who prefer traditional shorts. The Free Aeros are made from a blend of fabrics designed for durability and cool breathability, with 30% Lycra for a perfect balance between supportive compression and unrestricted movement. The sides and back also have surface dimpling (kind of like a golf ball) meant to cut through the wind and get you down the road faster. To complete the fit, Castelli's Giro Air leg bands feature a thin, almost mesh-like gripping surface to keep everything in place and eliminate any uncomfortable bunching or pinching -- just remember to throw on some sunscreen under the leg bands to avoid getting burnt. At the core of these shorts is the Progetto X2 Air Seat Pad, an antimicrobial chamois with seamless construction, four-way stretch, and a perforated foam layer for a soft, ventilated, friction-free ride. The Free Aero Race Shorts also include reflective elements to help keep you visible in low-light conditions for a race-ready short that will get you quickly and comfortably through any summer ride.

VERY comfortable. I raced for 20+ years and trained many miles every day but never really felt discomfort, my crotch would break-in in about a week, but now, at 76, I need comfort. These are the shorts for 2 hours plus in the saddle. my only complaint is the Euro sizing. I'm about 25 pounds heavier than my old racing weight so moving up one size would have been ok (lg to ex lg) I think the XXL would have been just a bit better sizing.

really nice. The main material is thin
These shorts are really, really nice. The main material is thin, light weight, yet compressive, which I like. The chamois is comfortable and holds up well on medium range rides. The cuff material is grippy, but does not pull the hair on my legs, and I have had problems with that on other shorts. The best overall shorts I've found are the Louis Garneau Mondo Evo, but it's since been discontinued. These shorts are are a very close second, and are my new favorites! Would definitely recommend them!

There are excellent biking shorts--much comfier and more padded than my Pearl Izumi iQ Attacks. They've held up after multiple washes and lots of 20+ mile rides and spin classes--and still feel great.Note that Castelli tends to run small. I am 5'9" with a 28-29" waist, and Medium was the correct size.

Best shorts I've owned!
These are fantastic! They run 1/2 size small, so I might have been happier with the next size up, but it works.

Great cycling short
Great cycling short, well constructed as can be expected by Castelli. The padding is much better than the Pro series Pearl Izumi shorts. I will purchase again.
