Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is a wild, passionate story of the intense and almost demonic love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, a foundling adopted by Catherine's father. After Mr Earnshaw's death, Heathcliff is bullied and humiliated by Catherine's brother Hindley and wrongly believing that his love for Catherine is not reciprocated, leaves Wuthering Heights, only to return years later as a wealthy and polished man. He proceeds to exact a terrible revenge for his former miseries. The action of the story is chaotic and unremittingly violent, but the accomplished handling of a complex structure, the evocative descriptions of the lonely moorland setting and the poetic grandeur of vision combine to make this unique novel a masterpiece of English literature. Beautiful copy
Let us not pretend this is a love story, in as much is neither is Romeo and Juliet. This is a tale of infatuation, possession, and in all aspects mental illness. That said it is a book that I enjoy reading and finding so many more details to read into, speculate, and theorize about. This is also a beautiful copy for a lovely price so I'm happy to add it to my physical library. Please don't romanticize this novel, it is a well written story yes, but this is by no means a love story.

A tragic love story with lots of trigger warnings.
What was supposed to be an epic love story was more like a tragic tale of domestic violence, kidnapping, forced marriages and physical and emotional abuse. Heathcliff was a very disturbed man who grew up experiencing physical and emotional abuse. He turned into an abuser to all who surrounded him: family, friends and servants. Heathcliff was infatuated by Catherine Earnshaw through his youth and into adulthood. Even after she married Mr. Linton, he never stopped obsessing over her, including after her death. He went so far as to dig up her grave to “look upon her face”. He later became obsessed with her daughter, young Cathy, for his son. He was so insistent on her marrying his son that he locked her in his house after tricking her into coming in. The depravity just got worse as he got older and more desperate. I’m not sure how this is classified as a love story instead of a tragedy, but it was an entertaining book and deserving of being classic literature.

Great value and well worth the read!!!
For those who worry having dyslexia or struggling to read puts them off these types of books, I argue if the plot, characters and determination are there this is not a challenge. I was one of these people and I love this book! Jane Eyre is one of my favourite books and I love all the Brontë’s works I’ve read and this type of genre. Whilst it may take me longer than some to read this kept my attention and was well worth persevering over. Love it!
