Glo T5 Ho Linear Fluorescent Lighting System, Single, 24-Inch

Extremely hard to install the bulb (tube). As you know to install the T5 HO bulb to the fixture, as instructed in the manual, after slipping the tube into the sockets we need to "carefully" rotate the bulb 90 degree for it to click into the operating position. It is nearly impossible to make this rotation with this fixture without breaking the bulb. The rotating part in the sockets is just too hard. I had to use a tool in lieu of the bulb to force rotating that part a dozen of time to make it "worn out" a bit and loose before I could try to put in the bulb and rotate. Two fixtures in my order behaved the same. It could also be very possible you can’t rotate the bulb out when you need to replace. Fortunately it's not end of the world. You can use a screw driver to disassemble the sockets and get the bulb out, put them back again the make them reusable. Other than that this fixture seems to be good. I like its suspension design. You can easily slide the two hook points along the length of the fixture and easily fix them at any positions. The made of hook points seem a little weak. Hope they don't break and drop the fixture.

I'm using this light on a 20 gallon tall, reef aquarium. I needed something more than my 2 bulb HO fixture and this is almost perfect. The light itself is working great and the bulb ends are protected by a plastic sleeve and o-rings. (Doesn't come with a bulb) and it's simple to install. If you break a bulb putting one in or removing, you probably need help tying your shoes as well. Seriously. Another thing is this fixture sets on the tank nicely, but is closer to the water on a plastic rim aquarium than I'd like. If you use the mounts it comes with for a rimless aquarium, the height would be up a bit and better suited for an aquarium. This can be hung too, and comes with a nice cable kit. All in all, great high output fixture with lots of uses. You just need your own 24inch HO t5 bulb. Usually around 20 bucks.Update:2/17/16. The initial fixture I got failed within a couple of weeks. Amazon return was super quick and easy. The replacement fixture is working as it should so far. I hope this doesn't happen again. Other than that set back, I still really like its design and features. fingers crossed!

Amazing value! The light fixture comes with expandable legs so it can fit a variety of tanks (with rims or without). In addition to this it comes with aquarium mounting brackets for rimless tanks and a suspension kit if you'd like to hang it from the ceiling. It also comes with a dual timer (usually cost about $10.) Given the extras I feel like I only paid about $30 for this lamp! The reflector is highly polished and the overall profile is very slick. Overall, awesome purchase!So why 4 stars? As stated in previous reviews the bulbs are extremely difficult to install. I recommend using a flat head screwdriver to turn the sockets back and forth a few dozen times. This will loosen them up so it's easier to turn the bulb. Be patient and eventually it will click into place.

I had problems with too little light on my 20 gallon high tank. The stock hood only allowed for 15 watts of regular flourescent light which was barely enough even for low light plants. I bought this as an upgrade to the stock lighting and this has been a great choice. It is affordable, solidly built,and is a great choice for a medium/low range planted tank (more to the medium range). Being only 24 watts I was quite worried that it may be insufficient, but the T5HO system really puts out a lot of light! The plants in my 20H tank have shown increased growth and better coloration. When you buy this make sure to pick up a bulb and a timer for convenience. You can skip the timer if you really want but then you will have to unplug/depower it at night or when you want the light off (it does not have an on/off switch!). I recomend the Sylvania analog timer for this one. It allows you to run it on an accurate and dependable schedule and if you just want to turn it on or off you can just push the switch to on(untimed) or off and not ruin your preset (timed) schedule.

Great T5HO fixture. I just returned to the planted aquarium hobby after quitting in 2012. It's amazing how much the hobby has changed in a few years. This is the only single T5HO fixture I could find for my 20g long. The reflector is great and makes this fixture very efficient. The adjustable length and height are nice features. The lack of on/off switch was a bit of a surprise to me but it makes a lot of sense since no one I know doesn't use a timer to turn the light on and off. My HC is growing very well with a 60,000k AquaticLife bulb and the height set to second from the highest. The only complain I have is how tight the socket is when installing a bulb. I was trying so hard to rotate the bulb that I was afraid the bulb was going to shatter in my hands. In the end I had to add a drop of lubricating oil to get it to turn.

So far So good. The bulbs are not hard to install just take your time. This light is made by Hagen. They have been in the fish supplies for as long as I can remember, good company. Order the bulbs from Drs foster and smith to get correct lighting for your set up. Comes with metal slide supports that fit any tank in the 24 inch range. Comes with timer. The reflector is high quality. Great deal. As mentioned in other reviews you must have two good bulbs for either to work. One bad bulb will put them both out.March 2016 was purchase date now it almost September 2017. Light is going strong. I think lights last longer on timer. This one works great. would buy again.

But this item to me is very expensive. Got a good price vs pet stores, however. Hope it lasts $70 worth.

Individual parabolic reflector gets you the highest light efficiency. I would recommend buying these single tube units instead of gang units. Attractive modern looking piece of equipment (as opposed to old fashioned strip lights).
