I took measurements to try & help with confusion over sizes! Hope this helps!
I hope this helps & doesn't confuse! The size chart is WAY OFF so I am going to share the measure I took & pics, too. These fit me perfect BUT it took me ordering XXL, XL (did so after reading reviews saying they ran SMALL) and then this size L to get the right fit. The LARGE fits me. I'm 5' 6" and weigh 138. I am long waisted too. I am generally a size 6/medium. The quality is superb! I'm so glad I finally got the right fit!I believe the reason there are many reviews about sizing issues is because Amazon size chart differs from the size chart Alove shows in pics & both are off...Here are my approx. measurements of the Alove board shorts I ordered....L: 35" waist (w/elastic stretched 1/2 way) 38" hips, 14 1/2" length (band to hem)XL: 37" waist (w/elastic stretched 1/2 way) 41" hips, 15" length (band to hem)2XL: 40" waist (w/elastic stretched 1/2 way) 42" hips, 15 1/2" length (band to hem)**Please keep in mind, my measurements taken with item laid flat is slightly different than the measurements of me wearing items. The Aqua are size 2XL & Purple are size L. I didn't get pics of the Black XL.Update: I posted multiple pics but only 2 posted. Sorry about that. I've submitted again hoping rest of pics will post.

Awesome!
So many times when I order things online, I am looking for a review that helps to guide me in my choice of size. So here it is...a review that talks about size and fit.I'll start by saying that I am 5'7" and weigh an athletic 148 pounds. My hip size is 39. Since the size chart put me in the Medium category, that's what I ordered. I got the longer short (7 inches long). I have to say that I found that these shorts fit as I expected them to...very nicely. They are not a baggy short, they are more fitted and are closer to the body which is what I was looking for. So many shorts fit like a divided skirt and I wanted shorts that look like shorts. The material is very thin and I think will handle water well (I plan to wear these in my kayak and on my stand-up paddle board). The tie in front will be the slowest part to dry. The fabric also has some stretch to it. Since it is currently 8 degrees out (winter) I won't know how well they will hold up until the mercury climbs in the springtime.

Better than I expected!
Based on other reviews I sized up and am glad I did. I'm a curvy girl and have such a hard time finding shorts that are big enough for my thighs & don't gap at the waist, I usually end up having to alter anything I buy. Per the measurements listed on the graph in the photos, I'm between a L and XL for my waist, and a 2X for my hips (and for the record, I wear 12 or 14 in Levi's 529 jeans). I ordered the 3X, they're fitted on me through the hips/thighs, but not too snug. The waist could be a bit smaller, but with the elastic waistband in the back they don't gap or anything so I probably won't bother taking it in. I just wish I could find a manufacturer who makes shorts with proportions more similar to my body shape! If all else fails, I'll probably buy another pair in a different color, but these are a pretty good start.

So far, so good!
I haven't worn these in the water yet, but can give info on sizing. I'm 5'3" 155 lbs and my weight is mostly in my belly, hips and thighs. I purchased an XL and they fit just right. Plenty of room in the legs. Hope this helps.

5’3 128lb bought size medium
I’m 5’3, 128lb and bought size medium. Based on reviews I went up a size and these shorts fit my body type perfectly. They do have some stretch to them and are fairly comfortable. Hope this helps.

I like them!
I purchased these shorts for an upcoming trip to Mexico. I’m 63 and need to cover my legs more than my swimsuit does! The hard part about buying any clothing on Amazon is figuring out what size to buy. Luckily, I chose the right size this time. I really like the shorts and I think they will be perfect for my purposes. I’m buying a second pair in the grey color. I noticed there are several different styles. Mine have no pockets and only come in black, grey and purple. So, for anyone that this review might help, I will give you the measurements that I would like to have when purchasing clothing online. I don’t know why sellers leave this crucial information out of their description! It makes zero sense to me!! 😫 I bought a size large, by the way, which the manufacturer has marked as a US size 10. I normally wear a size 6 but if I was buying designer clothing it probably would be a 10. In the everyday Ann Taylor, Gap companies, etc., I wear a 6. Here are the size Large measurements for these shorts:Waist Circumference - 32.5” (they sit on the hip)Fully Stretched Waist Circumference - 42.5”Bottom Leg Opening - 23”Inseam - 7”Front Rise - 9.5”Back Rise - 14”Overall Length (waist to hem) - 15”Hope this helps on sizing.

Nice shorts, just ordered wrong size.
I am updating my review to 4 star because after my size confusion the company contacted me right away and offered to remedy the situation. I would suggest using the US sizing listed or only size up one size at most . I read tons of reviews before ordering and since the majority said SIZE UP a couple sizes so that's what I did. I'm a US 12/14 but wanted these slightly loose so ordered the XXXL (US 16). I almost could fit both my legs into one of the legs on the shorts! The fabric is nice, so I would recommend them.

Love them!
After reading all the reviews I got a much larger size hoping they'd fit because I wanted them so badly! Yes they run small but I think the problem most women are running into is they are straight cut (fit in the hips then big for the waist..). They are a perfect length and I do love them. Going to put darts in the waist for this pair and order a second pair in one size smaller since the stretchy material does give some!
