Killzone: Shadow Fall Hits - PlayStation 4

Bought this for my oldest nephew on a whim who enjoys the COD universe. He not only had both of the previous games (unbeknownst to me) but also is amazed at the graphics for it being an older game. An added bonus for him, ow of his favorite voice actors is the main character!

No different than the other Killzone games or COD Infinite Warfare but, the scenery is spectacular

Killzone: Shadow Fall is a entertaining enough of a FPS that serves as what appears to be the final outing in the Killzone universe. After the over the top and potential setting killer that Killzone 3's ending was, Shadow Fall manages to untangle the mess that ending was and expand upon the existing setting and revitalize the universe. by doing a massive time skip into the future, thus nullifying a lot of Killzone 3's poor story decisions.In the beginning of the game you get to play as a kid, highlighting the emphasis that stealth plays in this game as compared to the other games which were very much straight-forward shoot 'em ups. It gives you a very brief civilian perspective of the large world events happening around you before ultimately you're thrown back into the familiar role of an adult spec-ops commando.Shadow Fall's story is not truly special or unique, but it manages to make the setting interesting once again and does leave things open for more stories to be told, though I don't think they will given the studio has moved onto other franchises that were more universally beloved and sold better. The focus on the political angle of things and operating on a much smaller, more 'street' level perspective rather than the grand sweeping war angle was refreshing. We get to see how civilian Helghast live, what their struggles are, the influences and powers at work within New Helghan, though I wish the same could have been said for the ISA side of things.The characters are likeable enough for FPS characters and the voice acting is solid. Nothing to truly write home about here.Graphics wise the game is phenomenal looking, even this many years after release. It was great to see the huge contrast between the shimmering, expensive splendor of Vekta City and how free and helathy everything looks vs the oppressive, claustrophobic dystopian warrens of New Helghan.Gameplay wise, not much has changed. It's a FPS, you point a gun at the enemy and pull the trigger until all the enemies are dead. They tried to incorporate a large sense of mobility into that gameplay loop however, putting a focus on stealthy operations and mobility, but in the end save for some scripted sequences with some interesting mechanics (zero gravity, being completely powerless and relying on marking sniper targets so you can move safely) most of the gameplay is no different than any other FPS game.OVerall I really did enjoy my time with Shadow Fall, and I hope to see more from the Killzone universe despite knowing we probably won't given that this game performed only above-average in sales and reviews. Overall it's reliance on old mechanics and a generic story and characters kept this from being more than a three out of five.
