We bought this as a replacement for the very thin and plastic-y mattress that came with our bassinet. The mattress quilting is soft and the firmness level is just right — pretty firm, but not so hard that it's uncomfortable. Our baby (who is now a toddler) slept very well on this mattress for the first 2-3 months of his life — he is rather tall so he outgrew the bassinet pretty quickly. We didn't really have any spit ups or leaks and we used fitted sheets, so I can't speak to the waterproof qualities.One note on sizing, when researching bassinet mattresses I found out that there almost is no standard size, so always measure your bassinet before ordering. You want the mattress to fit your bassinet perfectly without ANY gaps around the mattress, because the baby could roll into those and get under the mattress. My son was 1 week old when he first rolled onto his side, so even if the newborn is very young, there is always a slight chance of rolling around (same reason to never leave the baby unattended on the changing table), so keeping the bassinet safe (however unlikely the baby is to move) is so important.

I bought this mattress for an antique cradle and I am so glad I found this before paying hundreds for a custom mattress. It is not very soft, but it is not supposed to be for newborns. It is well made, looks like your typical crib mattress design. It is only 2 inches thick of foam, then has a floral waterproof covering around it. Like I said, for the price you can't go wrong!

My ex had a cradle made for our first born. It was an odd size and I had to cut a mattress to fit. Fast forward, and my kids have kids. We found this "odd sized" mattress that fit perfectly for, in the cradle, for the grandchildren.

It didn't fit my vintage bassinet due to how firm and structured it is. And I ordered it knowing it was a gamble if it would fit my non-standard bassinet but I was disappointed when I went to return it that I had to pay for packaging to ship it back. Even though it came in the plastic sheet I returned it in as pictured. If you're not totally sure it's going to fit and you're just buying this to see if it will keep that in mind

We return this item nit because it was bad but because we got one as a gift to our cradle.The mattress was nice though, everything you are looking for. Material was good, seemed sturdy and durable.

Shhhh… my youngest grandson is asleep on this mattress. I am guessing it is comfortable as when put in the cradle, he sleeps pretty soundly. Amazing price on this.
